Sevdah: The Bridge that Survived (2004)

The film celebrates music and characters from the heart of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

In the midst of civil war, a group of local musicians form the Mostar Sevdah Reunion Band to transcend the communal strife around them. In 1993 the town of Mostar was engulfed in fighting that culminated in the destruction of the town's 500 year old bridge. Ten years later, the beloved Old Bridge is restored but the town remains divided. Making music that transcends the communal strife around them, the band continues to perform. Although fate has scattered them across Europe, they still come together to make music that expresses a deeper identity than the new political entities.
