When an asylum seeker dies her Romany family have to decide whether to ignore her dying wish to be buried back in the Czech republic, or to abandon their own hopes of building a better life in England.

Somewhere Better (2003)

An unsentimental documentary about life and death amongst Gypsy asylum seekers living in Britain. Almost two years in the making, it reveals an unfamiliar landscape of funeral rituals, Turkish football clubs and struggles with wallpaper. It takes issues of identity and asylum out of the realm of abstract journalism and places them in their rightful human context.
