Tito’s Ghosts (2008)

Combining archive footage and living witnesses, Tito’s Ghosts bring to life the career of one of Europe's most controversial leaders, exposing the legacies of his rule. Tracing disturbing histories of myths and half-truths, the film focuses on the mark that the leader of the former republic of Yugoslavia leaves on people to this day.

For decades before his death in 1980, Tito cultivated a powerful cult of personality. When Communism collapsed in Eastern Europe and ethnic tensions escalated, his mythology could not stop his country descending into a decade of violence in one of the deadliest conflicts in Europe’s postwar history.
